About Sunrock

Built fromthe ground up.

FAMILY-OWNED · VERTICALLY INTEGRATED · EST. 1949

01The Idea

Own every step, and you can standbehind every ton.

Most material suppliers control one link in the chain. We control all of them: the reserves in the ground, the crushers and batch plants, the trucks on the road, and the crews on the grade. Vertical integration here is not a diagram on a slide. It is a chain of custody with our name on every link.

It is why a DOT engineer, a municipal purchaser, and a general contractor can all call the same number and get the same answer: yes, and here is exactly when.

02Seventy-Five Years
  1. 1949

Three Pfohl brothers, Joseph, Fidelis, and Paul, go into the sand and gravel business outside Buffalo, New York.

  2. 1950s–70s

The operation grows across western New York: crushed stone, sand and gravel, and hot mix asphalt, with the family name on every ticket.

  3. 1985

Bryan Pfohl brings the company south. Carolina Sunrock breaks ground in the Research Triangle, betting on a region about to boom.

  4. 2002

The New York operations are sold. Every dollar and every hour now points at North Carolina.

  5. 2000s

Vertical integration completes the chain: quarries, ready mix, hot mix asphalt, recycling, and a self-performing contracting division.

  6. 2010s

The network crosses the border. Quarries at Burnt River and Uxbridge and a ready-mix plant at Fenelon Falls bring Sunrock aggregates to Ontario.

  7. Today

The third generation runs the company. Same family, same name on the gate, seventy-five years on.

03What We Believe

Integrity

We quote what we can deliver and deliver what we quote.

Longevity

Private ownership means we plan in decades, not quarters.

Accountability

One company owns the rock, the mix, the truck, and the schedule.
